Aluminum & UPVC Double Glazing

Aluminium or UPVC windows – might as well try to choose between pizza and ice cream, and if you are not a fan of those then you will have a similar dichotomy! The point is that they are both excellent options for new or replacement windows and there are several pros and cons to each type. However, both are a very high-quality material choice for both windows and doors.

In some ways, UPVC and aluminium are very much the same. They share the following qualities:

  • Environmentally friendly: Both UPVC and aluminium have extremely long lifespans. UPVC can be recycled up to seven times and has a lifespan of 140 years and aluminium is highly recyclable with minimal processing.
  • Low-cost: Although aluminium has a higher price than UPVC they are both still relatively inexpensive materials. Aluminium frames may come with a higher price tag, but this is nothing compared to wooden windows.
  • Energy efficiency: Aluminium windows provide excellent thermal efficiency thanks to the clever thermal breaks in the frame. Triple or double-glazed windows are extremely efficient in either material.
  • Weather-resistant: UPVC is completely suitable for the UK’s climate, and powder-coated aluminium materials will also resist corrosion and the effects of weather. UPVC and aluminium will also never rot, unlike timber.
  • Wide range of colours: UPVC is available in a vast choice of colours and aluminium frames can be coloured with custom powder-coated finishes, too – so you can blend both types of frames into your home.
